Based in Mercer County, Create Your State (CYS) is a community-building and storytelling initiative rooted in the belief that music, arts, and creativity can help shape stronger, more connected, and more inspired communities.

Focused on empowering communities through music, arts, and creative entrepreneurship, CYS explores how creativity can revitalize neighborhoods, strengthen local economies, bring people together, and support healing and transformation.

Through roadshows, gatherings, artist stories, short-form documentaries, and real-world case studies from Mercer Street and communities across West Virginia and Appalachia, Create Your State shares strategies, inspiration, and practical tools for communities looking to harness the arts as a catalyst for positive change.

West Virginia Commission on the Arts

The West Virginia Commission on the Arts supports artists, schools, nonprofits, and communities across the state through grants, programs, and technical assistance designed to strengthen arts and culture throughout West Virginia.

With support from the West Virginia Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts, the Commission helps expand access to the arts, support arts education, preserve cultural traditions, and invest in the creative vitality of communities across the Mountain State.
